San Mateo Physiotherapy

Adjunctive physiotherapy is used, when necessary, to correct underlying physical problems, to speed the progress of physical development, or to relieve the current — and potentially aggravating — symptoms a patient may be experiencing. Our physiotherapeutic division, San Mateo Physiotherapy, is committed to supporting each of our San Mateo Physiotherapy rehabilitation patients’ full chiropractic recovery, working closely — and in conjunction — with my direct supervision, and that of my excellent staff at Harman Chiropractic Center.

The most common form of San Mateo Physiotherapy rehabilitation technique I use in the office is microcurrent. For the purposes of relieving underlying pelvic muscle dysfunction, or determining the root cause of certain types of low-back pain, microcurrent is widely effective. Microcurrent is a very low intensity, painless type of electro-therapy delivered by probes, and without the removal or clothing or gowning. Most people are shocked by how effective, yet non-invasive, this therapeutic technique is, and are generally pleased by the results it so readily produces.

For home use in conditions involving inflammation, we keep pre-frozen gel packs on hand. Frozen peas are OK in an emergency, but not as efficacious.

In addition, we at the San Mateo Physiotherapy rehabilitation division have diathermy — somewhat like a microwave turned inside out — which produces tissue heating at much greater depth than hot packs and heating pads. This intensified heating procedure helps ease pain and discomfort, and helps the patient receive the immediate pain-relief they may, in acute cases, desperately need.

We have several types of traction for the spine. The most commonly used is motorized traction, sometimes called intersegmental traction. It is available separately for the cervical spine and the thoracolumbar spine.
With the exception of microcurrent and ice, no other therapies are utilized for the first few visits. Generally, only one therapy is used at a time in order to ascertain what works and what doesn’t to avoid wasting your time and money. Communication, in life and in chiropractic, is essential. Speak up if there are treatments you’ve read about — here, or elsewhere on the Internet — which you feel may be appropriate for your situation. After all, the goal of the San Mateo Physiotherapy rehabilitation division is to support the chiropractic treatment decisions made by me, Dean Harman, DC, when and if you, the patient, decide that chiropractic treatment is both appropriate and necessary to maintain your physical health and well-being.
